Fletcher Buchanan

I'm fundraising to support my trip to Canberra as part of JDRF's Kids in the House campaign.

Our brave boy 💙

Constantly checking our phones to monitor blood sugar levels.

Saying no to special treats because they might have too much sugar.

Explaining to people this is forever and won't go away soon.

The next minute forcing juice or jellybeans down your child's mouth to avoid a severe hypo.

Calling your child to get off the trampoline because they're heading low.

Waking your child up in the middle of the night to do a finger prick because their alarm has gone off.

Spending the night before a day at childcare calculating the food you think they'll eat the next day.

Responding to questions like "what is diabetes mummy?" at the dinner table .

Tantrums and irritability more than a regular two year old due to feeling yucky.

Explaining to your toddler they can leave their educators side at child care even though their safe space is near the phone and jellybeans.

Not being able to go out like most parents because babysitters or friends aren't trained in managing diabetes.

Remembering the multitude of supplies needed at the chemist and when to order the next lot in.

Waiting for blood sugar levels to be at a safe level before even considering going to bed at night.

Listening to your child say 'I'm brave mummy' through their tears when injecting a new pump site.

Watching your child toss and turn all night long because they can't get comfortable wearing an electronic device around their waist 24/7.

Trying to find a place in their tiny body which hasn't already been injected to place a new site.

This is our families new normal. Something we would never expect to have to go through with our child especially at two years old. It isn't fair on anyone. The daily decision making is mentally draining and unfair.

That is why we are advocating this November in Parliament for awareness and funding for Type One diabetes. Thousands of Australians are going through what we are today and there has a to be a cure. Fletcher is two. He has his whole life ahead of him, but we need our voices to be heard now for him to life a life of freedom where his blood sugar levels do not control or defy him. We can do it, we can make a change. And we need your support to get there! 💙

I'm headed to Canberra for Kids in the House in November 2024. Support me today!

I'm thrilled to be part of JDRF's Kids in the House (KITH) advocacy event this November, where I'll be making a real difference in the fight against type 1 diabetes (T1D).

KITH is more than just an event—it's my chance to advocate for crucial funding for CRN4 research and raise awareness about T1D on a national scale. By heading to Parliament House, I will be amplifying my voice and driving change where it matters most.

But I can't do it alone. I need your support to make a meaningful impact. Your donation will help power this important campaign and ensure that my voice is heard loud and clear by decision makers.

Together, let's make KITH 2024 a historic moment in our journey towards a world without T1D. Join me in advocating for Kids in the House and let's make a difference together.
