My life with Type 1 Diabetes

Hi,
I'm Elena Raschilla, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 3. Throughout my life so far I have experienced many difficulties and obstacles that many do not face. Type 1 Diabetes has not only affected me but also those around me, such as my parents. They were educated on T1D when I was diagnosed and have always aimed to help me achieve a normal life regardless of my disease. I have faced mental, physical and psychological challenges throughout my life with T1D. Though T1D is apart of me, it does not control who I am and does not form my identity. I eat, sleep, play sports, hang out with friends and aim to live my life to the fullest just like everyone else. T1D has taught me resilience and strength at a young age though out all the long sleepless nights due to low sugar levels or all the hospital trips or all the crying moments in my room because I felt different and unaccepted from society. T1D has taught me to look after my life, to look at the bright side of things and to accept myself for who I am.

JDRF help to find a cure once and for all for T1D and help the hundreds of thousands affected each and everyday due to something out of our control. Therefore each and every donation and/or share helps create a brighter future for those affected directly and indirectly.

I'm jumping for a great cause!

I am jumping out of a plane in order to help JDRF achieve their goal to find a cure to Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

T1D can strike anyone at any time. 8 Australians are diagnosed every day! Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy. JDRF is the largest funder of T1D research in the world with a vision to create a world without T1D.

I was personally diagnosed at 3 years old, though I have never known a life outside of being diabetic, it has affected me in every sort of way; emotionally, physically and psychologically. I grew up taking a minimum of 4 injections a day and will continue to do so for the rest of my life, though with your contributions together we are able to find a cure for the more than 130,000 Australians living with T1D.

All contributions big and small help in taking a step forward to a brighter future for us all.
